A Note about State Licensing
Naturopathic medicine is licensed differently state-by-state in the U.S. Currently there are 20 states (plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) that offer licenses to practice medicine for naturopathic doctors (NDs). In Connecticut, naturopathic physicians have been licensed since 1923. Unfortunately, New York state does not currently license naturopathic medicine.
Dr. Beil is a licensed physician in the states of Connecticut and Oregon, and also has a license to practice acupuncture and Chinese medicine in NY and CT. Currently in New York State, his naturopathic practice is limited to extensive professional health consultations only. All advice and or statements given to patients in NY are from the perspective of a qualified health coach, and are not intended to diagnose or treat disease.
Dr. Beil's license to practice Chinese medicine in New York permits him to diagnose and treat disease within the framework of that system of healthcare, as well as perform therapeutic activities such as acupuncture and tui na massage, in full compliance with the laws of the state of New York.
Efforts to obtain naturopathic licensure in New York are on-going. There is an active bill (A10128) in the NY State Assembly that would grant licensure during the current (2017) session. Please contact Dr. Beil (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are interested in getting involved in the effort to license naturopathic doctors in New York State. More information can also be obtained via the NYANP.
